Helen Peebles
Dorothy Helen Peebles, 82, of Smithville, Mo., formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the St. Luke’s Hospital North in Kansas City, Mo. Born January 2, 1928 in Rupert, Idaho, she was the daughter of Ernest N. and Emily Elmira (Manwill) Johnson. On November 19, 1946 in Concord, Calif., she was married to Dan Junior Peebles, who preceded her in death October 11, 2000. Also preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Robert Johnson and one in infancy. Surviving are two sons, Robert E. Peebles and wife, Bonnie, of Springdale, Ark., and Noland J. Peebles and wife, Jackie, of Springfield, Ore.; a sister-in-law, Edna Troutman of Cameron, Mo.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Peebles received her education in Concord, Calif., graduating from Mt. Diablo High School in 1946. Following her marriage she was a homemaker and later was employed as a secretary in the superintendents office at Maysville, Mo., from 1964 to 1966 and then as a secretary for the school in Clinton, Mo., from 1966 until she retired in 1989. Helen enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, attending Bible studies, cooking and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Excelsior Springs Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Woodland Cemetery near Liberty, Mo. No public visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to India Practical Missions, P.O. Box 691522, Tulsa, OK 74169. Arrangements by Polley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs, Mo.
