Sign Guest Book James "Bud" Dorton James Thomas “Bud” Dorton, 87, of Orrick, Mo., passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at his home. Born July 6, 1923 in Oklahoma City, Okla., he was the son of James Thomas and Georgia Agnes (Farris) Dorton. On May 18, 1946 in Galveston, Texas, he was married to Joy LaVerne Olson, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Phyllis Jeffries and husband, Bill, of Orrick, Mo., and Barbara Hutchings and husband, Kenny, of Richmond, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Dorton of Cordova, Tenn.; two sisters, Betty Polk of Santa Fe, Texas, and Sandra Kay McReynolds of Galveston, Texas; six grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Stanley Dorton on July 1, 1994; two brothers, Ed Dorton and Bobby Dorton, and two sisters, Nancy Case and Martha Brown. Bud moved to Orrick, Mo., at the age of eight and attended public schools there. He served in the United States Navy. He owned and operated Dorton Plumbing and Heating for 35 years before retiring in 1980. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and also went elk hunting in Colorado. A graveside committal service will be held Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Southpoint Cemetery at Orrick, Mo. Cremation. There is no public visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Southpoint Cemetery. Arrangements by Polley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs.
