Marjorie Cox
Marjorie Cox, 90, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center. Marjorie was born on December 13, 1919 in Orrick, Mo., the daughter of Homer S. and Addie May (Tarwater) Hicks. On September 5, 1940 she married George L. Cox, who preceded her in death on September 15, 2005. She worked in the Catalog Department for J.C. Penney, retiring after over 30 years of employment. She was a member of Flack Memorial Christian Union Church, Excelsior Springs,Mo. She had also been church organist in Mosby, Mo., for many years. Survivors include one son, James Cox and his wife, Martha, of Chillicothe, Mo.; one sister, Eleanor McQuery, of Liberty, Mo.; three grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by one daughter, Judith K. Hammond in 2002, one brother, Marcus L. Hicks, one sister, Zella Campbell, and two grandsons, Brian Olinger and Bruce McMillan. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Flack Memorial Christian Union Church, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the American Cancer Society.
