Vern A. Jackson, Sr.
Vern Arnold Jackson, Sr., age 92, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center. Born January 14, 1918 in Butler, Mo., he was the son of James Thomas and Gladys Lena (Zinn) Jackson. On November 14, 1941 in Liberty, Mo., he was married to Rosemary Grace Brown, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Vern A. Jackson, Jr., and wife, Alice, of Lawson, Mo., Thomas O. Jackson of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and William E. Jackson and wife, Patty, of Holt, Mo.; two daughters, Peggy Crooks and husband, Danny, and Patsy Barlow and husband, Fritz, all of Liberty, Mo.; two brothers, William Jackson of Missouri City, Mo., and Delbert Jackson and wife, Lucille, of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; three sisters, Stella Thompson, Louise Duncan and Ann Conley and husband, Bud, all of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Delores Jackson; two brothers, Paul Jackson and James “Bud” Jackson; and two sisters, Lillian Elliott and Jean Barnes. Mr. Jackson moved to Excelsior Springs at a young age, living there and also in Lawson, Mo. He attended public schools in Excelsior Springs. Following his education he worked in various employments. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army. Vern later worked for General Motors before retiring in 1975. Mr. Jackson was a member of Siloam Springs Baptist Church and was a retired Deacon, having served for over 30 years. He also enjoyed woodworking and farming. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kearney, Mo. Visitation is Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Siloam Springs Baptist Church.
